Introduction to Open Water Swimming Course 2019

Designed for those new to open water swimming OR those wishing to learn more about this aspect of swimming.  This is a gentle introduction to this growing sport. Covering everything from wet suit fitting through to its removal with a swim in between this 2 hour course has been developed over the years to get you into the water safely, help you enjoy the experience in order to have you return to swim with us on a regular basis.

£25 per swimmer.

What do I need?

  • Swimming costume and or Tri suit
  • Bright coloured swimming hat
  • Goggles
  • Wet suit  (Wet suits available for hire)
  • Towel
  • Warm clothing including hat (prize given for the best outstanding hat!)
  • Flip Flops
  • Flask with a hot drink

In addition

  • Wet suit lube
  • 2 disposable plastic shopping bags
  • An ability to laugh at yourself and others

Lower Lakes Straight Drove Chilton Trinity Bridgwater TA5 2BQ

Off the M5 Junc 23 north of Bridgwater onto the A38 heading towards Bridgwater. Turn right in front of Matalan Store by the VW garage on the right. At the traffic lights by the Riders Motor Bike Shop turn right. Over the bridge on the River Parrett at the lights turn right towards Chilton Trinity. Pass the school on the left into Chilton Trinity. Passing the new Redrow Homes on right there is a sharp bend. Directly after the bend is a turning to the right into Straight Drove (Signed as a dead end). Pass two fishing lakes “Trinity Lakes” Lower Lake is on the right approx 200m from the junction. Park in the first car park on the left. The swim entrance is out of the car park turn left head towards a brick bungalow, bear right at the bungalow the launch pontoon is to your front.

FAQs:

Q:  How well do I need to swim?
A:  You should be able to swim 100m in breaststroke and have an aspiration to swim front crawl as a minimum

Q: Do I need a wet suit?
A: No depending on water temperature and your swimming ability. BUT we recommend wearing one for first timers.

Q:I have not got a wet suit?
A: You maybe able to hire one from us or we can advise on the best value purchase once you have signed up for a course.
